“A Strong Foundation Is Essential for Success in Olympiads” — Gor Hovsepyan

The latest featured student in our “Success Stories of PhysMath Students”series is Gor Hovsepyan, a student at the PhysMath School, who won a silver medal at the 56th International Physics Olympiad in July 2026.

In a conversation with the PhysMath Friends Charitable Foundation, Gor spoke about why he chose PhysMath, what the Olympiad club has given him, his experience participating in international Olympiads, and his plans for the future.

Why PhysMath?

Mathematics has always interested me, and I decided to enroll in the PhysMath School because I wanted to study it in greater depth. From an early age, I was also interested in nature, and physics is one of the broadest sciences for understanding the natural world. I was particularly interested in exploring the world around me through physics, which is why I decided to deepen my knowledge of the subject.

One of the greatest advantages of the PhysMath School is its strong connection with Olympiads, which I had already been interested in before enrolling in the school.

On the Olympiad Club and Participating in Olympiads

The Olympiad club has given me the opportunity to study the theory of physics in depth, develop my problem-solving skills, and apply my theoretical knowledge to solving complex problems. Participating in Olympiads has also helped me become more flexible in my thinking and improve my ability to think quickly and stay focused.

Participating in Olympiads is easy, but achieving success in them requires a strong foundation. And to build that foundation, a student first needs to learn how to study independently. In addition, they need to have dedication, determination, and perseverance.

Experience at International Olympiads

Before the International Physics Olympiad, I had only participated in the Zhautykov Olympiad. However, I had already experienced the joy of winning a medal. The most exciting part was knowing that I would have the opportunity to raise our national flag on stage.

Plans for the Future

In the future, I plan to work as an engineer specializing in mechanics and continue my education in Europe.
